The Business Operations Unit (BOU) within GWOCR supports clinical research by negotiating clinical trial contracts and budgets. Additionally, BOU is a vital resource for the clinical research endeavors at GW by providing support and guidance to investigators and staff within the research community through the preparation, review, approval and submittal of all Federal, Foundation and non-profit proposals as well as acceptance of awards for these sponsored projects. BOU supports the research community by reviewing and negotiating all contracts and subcontracts with industry, Federal, nonprofit, state and local entities for sponsored projects supporting clinical research at GW.

How We Support
The BOU team provides support in the following ways:
- Collaboration with investigators and research staff to build clinical study budgets, provide skilled budget negotiation, and complete Medicare Coverage analyses.
- Administrative support through account creation and billing charge review in Epic.
- Assistance with processing amendments, subawards, and Just-In-Time (JIT) information requests and help with progress report reviews and submissions
- Interpret and advise on sponsor guidelines, applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and GW policies and procedures.
- The BOU team’s internal review process ensures that all sponsored project documentation adheres to applicable federal, state, sponsor, and institutional policies and guidelines. The BOU review process provides assurance to sponsors that time and cost commitments are appropriate and all compliance issues are adequately resolved.
